Gidon Jakar completed a PhD from the University of Michigan in June 2020 in the Department of Sport Management, and a PhD in Geography and Urban Studies in May 2020 in the Geography Department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Following his PhD, Gidon was a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Michigan. The research in both PhD studies included Sport Management related qualitative and quantitative analyses. Gidon's recent studies incorporate the extensive use of ESRIs Geographical Information System ArcGIS, including spatial analyses and data mapping.
Previous qualitative studies focused on urban governance and planning sport venues using semi-structured interviews as well as extensive analysis of previous literature, four of these studies were published in leading North American and European peer-reviewed urban related journals. Gidon’s quantitative studies included a statistical analysis of ownership in European Soccer that was published in Journal of Sport Management, an extensive statistical analysis and modeling of attendance in English Soccer, and an analysis of the geographical distribution of sport franchises in the United States using statistical modeling including spatial data analytics based on GIS analytics. Current and future studies will include the collection, merging and analysis of extensive social and spatial datasets related to the geography, societal and economics of sport venues and events and local development.
